Autumn harvest 2024: Navigating weather challenges with success
From the red beet fields to our cabbage and carrot crops across Poland, this autumn’s harvest demonstrates the resilience of our agricultural network. With temperatures soaring and rainfall patterns more reminiscent of tropical climates than traditional European weather, our harvest season has demanded extraordinary dedication from our farming partners and agricultural experts. Here’s what we’re seeing across our growing regions.
A season of weather extremes
Across our farming fields, the autumn brought intense heat waves with daytime temperatures above 40°C. These extreme conditions demanded swift responses from our farming partners and crop experts, as additional measures needed to be implemented to protect plant health and maintain quality standards.
Vegetable crops proved resilient despite challenges
Red beets led our autumn harvest, concluding in September with yields below typical expectations, though maintaining the high quality our customers trust. Through careful field management, our cabbage crops weathered the heat well. Strategic irrigation proved crucial, helping us bring in a solid harvest by late October.
Now, as we approach the final stages of our carrot harvest, our teams continue to demonstrate the value of their expertise through rigorous field selection and precise handling, ensuring top-quality produce despite adverse weather. We’ve seen similar patterns across our other vegetables, with kale showing comparable performance to our red beet crops.
Our commitment to resilient and sustainable supply
This season has shown us just how important clear communication is across our agriculture network. Our crop experts remain closely connected to the fields, adapting their strategies daily and working hand-in-hand with our partner farmers to tackle challenges as they come. By facing them together, we’ve enhanced our adaptive capabilities and reinforced our commitment to reliable supply that meets our customers’ needs – whatever weather patterns future seasons may bring.
